In an effort to support students who may have limited access to resources while seeking a higher education in our community, the Hammonton Health Coalition created The Latino Leadership Scholarship Fund in 2020. Since then, the Coalition has handed out almost $20,000 in scholarships to 31 Latino high school seniors in Hammonton. This is possible in part due to the generosity of donors and sponsors like you in our community. Students who have received the scholarships have gone on to attend Rutgers University, Rowan University, Stockton University, Lehigh University, University of Virginia, and the University of Notre Dame.
The purpose of this scholarship is to provide some financial assistance towards the costs associated with buying books and supplies for the first semester of college while awarding students who demonstrate academic achievement and have had a positive impact on our community.
To be eligible for the $1000 scholarship, the student must:
- Be a graduating Latino high school senior from Hammonton High School or ACIT who has been accepted and intends on attending college in the fall. All applicants must reside in Hammonton.
- Submit an application consisting of a 400-500 word essay in English and Spanish describing your experience as a Latino student including any hardships you may have faced and any accomplishments, your goals and aspirations after finishing college, and how the scholarship would help you achieve those goals.
- Submit one recommendation letter from a non-family member, academic reference is preferred
- Provide a copy of a college acceptance letter
